choose something from my bucket list & save on travel fees!

I have been a traveller and explorer all my life with a never-ending curiosity for new places and new cultures. Whether I’m traveling by plane, roadtripping in my van Jupiter, or hiking on foot, I love discovering new cities, hiking backcountry trails through rainforests and along rugged coastlines, frolicking on black sand beaches, feeling the wind and rain on my face while I soak in the beauty of somewhere I've never been before. There are so many destinations that I dream of visiting one day. Sometimes it feels like there just isn't enough time in this lifetime so see it all. If you are an adventurous couple considering eloping or planning an intimate wedding in a unique destination I would love to be invited to capture your love alongside the natural beauty of an amazing off-the-beaten-path location. This list is just a tiny sample of places around the world that I would love to visit and photograph an elopement at, and it is constantly growing. If you have another epic location in mind for your intimate destination wedding or elopement I would love to hear all about it! I have all-inclusive pricing for weddings and elopements in these destinations - inquire for more information!

haida gwaii/Queen Charlotte Islands

If you know me, you'll know I have a deep love for rainforests and sacred, supernatural places. Haida Gwaii is an archipelago off the west coast of British Columbia. These islands are remote and wild. Imagine having your wedding amongst old growth temperate rainforests, rugged coastline, fog, rain and the beautiful Haida culture. With a population of only 5000 people you are guaranteed to be able to find space to just exist with nature. I would love to photograph an intimate wedding or elopement along the wooden boardwalks of Naikoon Provincial Park and Tow Hill, on the sandy beaches of Moresby Island, or among the moss-covered old growth trees that cover the islands. We could finish the day with a post-wedding session in the hotsprings of Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve. Check out my blog post for How to Plan a Haida Gwaii Wedding!

Fogo Island

Fogo island is the largest offshore island that is part of Newfoundland & Labrador. It is another remote, yet accessible, part of Canada (are you noticing a trend yet?) that is surrounded on all sides by the wild Atlantic ocean. Fogo Island feels like the edge of the Earth with a subarctic landscape and a temperate maritime climate. The untamed wilderness and rugged landscape appear almost alien in nature and would be the perfect backdrop for a beautiful wedding or elopement. Even though the landscape is barren, it is home to a vast variety of wildlife and plant species. Being located near the icy Labrador Current, this would be the perfect location for a windy, moody, intimate elopement. Mother Nature is in her rawest form here.

Iceland

Obviously I couldn't make a list of remote places for an epic adventurous wedding or elopement and leave out Iceland, could I? This place has been the top of my list for years. If you haven't seen it yet, check out the movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty for some amazing cinematography of this beautiful, isolated place. As a geologist in my past life, I am so fascinated by how young the landscape of Iceland is. For all the rock nerds like me, Iceland sits on the divergent boundary between two tectonic plates. That means that where the two plates are moving apart, new geologic material is forming and rising. Essentially, parts of Iceland are still forming as we speak. That's why this island has no forests and the landscape looks so much bigger than life. The normal geological processes that allow landscapes to be eroded haven't had significant time to take place yet. Another thing I love about Iceland is how accessible the amazing natural wonders are here. You can explore a variety of landscapes in a single day. From hot springs, to lava fields, black sand beaches to incredible waterfalls, it really is possible to have it all in Iceland. If you are thinking of eloping in Iceland, I would love to be your wedding photographer or be part of your adventurous elopement!

New zealand

New Zealand is one of the most amazing countries I have ever visited. I was lucky enough to photograph an amazing intimate wedding on the East Coast of New Zealand in KatiKati. Whether you are coming to Aotearoa to soak in the tropical vibes of the Coromandel, chilling out in the surfers paradise of Raglan, exploring the wild coastline of the South Island or climbing mountaintops and chasing waterfalls around Queenstown and Wanaka, I can guarantee you will find whatever it is you are looking for in New Zealand. I was lucky enough to spend 4 months exploring every inch of the North & South islands, and I still have more to explore when I return! This is the perfect place for an adventurous destination elopement and I would love to come along!

ireland

Ahhh Ireland. I feel very connected to this country. I grew up being told I was part Irish and part German and when I visited Ireland in spring of 2019 I could feel it in my bones. I’ve always been curious about the Irish landscape and culture. Exploring parts of my heritage and the incredible rugged coast where my ancestors lived is pretty powerful. All of the things I love the most for wedding photography are here in full force: wind, rain, fog, the ocean, cliffside views and rolling green hills. Whether you are looking to elope on the wild coast at the Cliffs of Moher or you are more drawn to the unique geology of the Giants Causeway, Ireland has no shortage of amazing locations for a destination wedding or elopement. End the day with some Celtic music at the pub and it sounds like the most magical day I could imagine.

Tofino

I fell in love with Tofino the moment I stepped out of my car into the salty ocean air when I first visited 10 years ago. There is something incredibly grounding and calm about this stunning wedding & elopement destination on Vancouver Island. The rugged and remote coastline surrounded by old growth forest and usually shrouded in fog makes you feel like you’ve transported somewhere back in time. The sea mist lingers in the air and the coastal trees seem to beckon you inward. Whether you get married on one of the many beautiful beaches, or say your vows in the rainforests of the Pacific Rim National Park, Tofino and Ucluelet are in my opinion Canada’s best destinations for an intimate wedding or adventurous elopement. I’ve visited here many times but I am still waiting for the couple of my dreams to get married here and have me photograph their stunning Tofino wedding day! I’ll meet you there.

Sunset on Sunshine Coast Trail destination for adventurous elopement couple in BC

Sunshine Coast, BC

I actually photographed my first official wedding on the Sunshine Coast many, many years ago at the stunning and romantic, seaside Rockwater Secret Cove Resort in Halfmoon Bay, BC. At the time I really don’t think I knew exactly how amazing that opportunity was. Now, after returning recently for a spontaneous week long adventure to explore the rugged beauty of the Sunshine Coast, I have a new appreciation for what an amazing piece of paradise this part of Canada is. For adventurous couples looking for a unique BC destination to elope you can find anything your heart desires here: pristine cascading waterfalls just outside the charming community of Roberts Creek, moss-covered boardwalks through arbutus trees leading you to untouched marine coves in Smugglers Cove Marine Provincial Park, remote coastlines in the Desolation Sound only accessible by kayak or boat, or you can hike one of the many rugged trails and catch an incredible sunrise or sunset at the top of one of the 11 Sunshine Coast trail huts. There are also some epic venues like the infamous West Coast Wilderness Lodge which has been a venue I’ve been dying to photograph for ages! I barely scratched the surface while visiting this amazing place and would love to go back with a laid-back couple and explore together!

YUKON, NORTHWEST TERRITORIES & ALASKA

The older I get, the more drawn I feel to spaces and places in nature that feel untouched by society. The Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Alaska are definitely part of the world that I would love to explore. All of these places feature wild landscapes, rugged mountain peaks, diverse National Parks and panoramic views that will take your breath away. With small populations, short summers and long, dark winters, these aren’t a destination that most people would consider for their intimate wedding however, for those who are looking for a unique and off-the-beaten-path destination for their elopement, this might be the place for you. Truly the last frontier of Canada & the USA, the land of the midnight sun is somewhere I dream of photographing an amazing couple one day! (Just look at those incredible fall colours in Denali National Park!!)
